TV Dudes Mixtape

The TV Dudes encourage you to donate to Black Lives Matter, the ACLU Civil Liberties Fund, or another fund that will help move us all forward.

We've got a mixtape of shows this week! Charles Armstrong took advantage of our Showrunner level Patreon, which means he gets to pick another show for us to discuss, and that show is NETFLIX's 'Hip-Hop Evolution'! Which pairs nicely with the 'Beastie Boys Story' on Apple+. We're sticking to reality shows in talking about 'Taste the Nation' and 'Top Chef' on HULU, with a sidestep into Britishness with 'Travel Man', before we stop back in the world of fiction with the second season of NETFLIX's 'The Politician'.

TV Slowdown

To celebrate Juneteeth, The TV Dudes encourage you to donate to Black Lives Matter, the ACLU Civil Liberties Fund, or another fund that will help move us all forward.

There's not as much new coming out on TV right now, so the Dudes are hitting up a variety of shows this week. We've got a catch-up on FX's 'What We Do In The Shadows', and a second look at HBOMax's 'Love Life', we're looking at 'Agents of SHIELD' and 'Don't' on ABC, Les has thoughts on 'Hustle' over on Prime, and we are going back for 'Space Force' on NETFLIX.

Maximum Streaming

Before we get started this week, we want to let y'all know that while yes, we're an escapist podcast about teevee, we're all very aware of what's going on in the world. We encourage you if you have the means to donate to Black Lives Matter, the ACLU Civil Liberties Fund, or another fund that will help move us all forward.

Warner Brothers dropped a whole new streaming service on us, HBO Max, and we're gonna talk about that, their new 'Looney Tunes' episodes, as well as their main original so far, 'Love Life' with Anna Kendrick. We've also finally fallen for another streaming service with Apple+, and we'll talk a little about that, and how Loren Bouchard's 'Central Park' was the last straw that drew Randy in. Then we've got thoughts on 'Last Dance', the ESPN documentary on Michael Jordan that's also on Netflix. And because it seems kind of relevant to the time, we're gonna catch up on 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver'.

Black Lives Matter

We interrupt our regularly scheduled program to bring your attention to #blacklivesmatter. Racism is deeply embedded in our society and we want to promote a couple ways you can help address the inequities of Black people. First, the ACLU Civil Liberties Fund. The ACLU Racial Justice Program aims to preserve and extend constitutionally guaranteed rights to people who have historically been denied their rights on the basis of race. You can learn more and/or donate at https://www.aclu.org/issues/racial-justice

If you can give please do. There’s also ways to help that don't involve money. If you have questions or don't know where to get started please reach out to us.

Next week we will return to our regularly scheduled program. If you are looking for something to listen to in the mean time please check out 'Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air', 'Code Switch', and 'Best Friends with Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata'. Please support Black voices.
